His Daughter ~ Molly Kate Kestner ~ So what does it take to get 8 million + hits on your UTube video?

Well it helps if you can write a cracking emotional song. It will also help if you can sing it with incredible pathos and I do mean incredible.  So that's two boxes ticked for this 18 year old from Minnesota.

Some will say there are better singers, maybe, but its not all about how much vocal gymnastics, range or power you can put into a song, give me emotion any day and there's not many that can emote like Molly.

There was another component that was a big factor in the songs incredible success, Star Trek ..... well not specifically Star Trek but the song went into hyperspace when  George Takei aka Sulu from Star Trek was forwarded the track and was taken by it so much he posted it on his Facebook page, with nearly 7 million followers.

The rest is now history, recorded on an old IPhone and on a piano which would obviously benefit from a good piano tuner, the track is incredibly raw and ... well stunning, listen to it yourself I'll be amazed if your not moved.  There are already cover versions but none come anywhere close to the emotion Molly puts into it. IMHO Even the studio version is not as emotionally stirring as the raw version. Ive posted some of the better cover versions at the bottom and more of Molly's songs below.    Most of the originals are stunning,  Enjoy :-)

Molly's facebook page is here.

Finding Sugarman

70th Anniversary of D Day (the largest combined sea, air, and land military operation in history), We must remember them and the sacrifices made.

Operation Overlord

 "Do you realise that by the time you wake up in the morning 20,000 men may have been killed?" {Churchill to his wife the night before D-Day}

On the 6th of June 1944 175,000 troops landed on the Normandy coast, helped there by more than 5,000 ships, crewed by 195,700 personnel from the Allied navies and merchant navies.

The allies put ashore 5 divisions on Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword beaches. By the end of the day nearly 4,500 had died achieving the beachhead.

Despite various films attempts to portray D Day as a predominately US operation this is a myth and Overlord was the brainchild largely of Gen. Bernard Montgomery, the land force commander. The majority of Warships, Landing craft and Aircraft involved were British.

My uncle was a sailor on a landing craft and they had to return for repairs after the landing craft hit a mine. Uncle Charlie was in the army but not sure where, he never made it back.

My Dad landed on D Day +6 (that's 6 days later) as part of the Royal Engineers at Arromanches, probably as part of one of the below.  Still trying to locate which one, and I remember him saying that his commander was Lieutenant-General Brian Horrocks

  • 14th Field Squadron Royal Engineers
  • 615th Field Squadron Royal Engineers
  • 148th Field Park Squadron Royal Engineers
  • 11th Bridging Troop Royal Engineers
  • Guards Armoured Division Postal Unit Royal Engineers
  • 5th Guards Armoured Brigade Workshop Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
  • 32nd Guards Brigade Workshop Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Dad helped build the Montgomery Bridge  and had something to do with the bridge at Nijmegan and was with REs helping troops back across the river at Arnhem after the failed Market Garden operation.

British Navy bombardment of the French Navy at its base at Mers-el-Kébir 3 July 1940

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Mers-el-K%C3%A9bir

Well I didn't know that ......

On the 3rd July 1940 a British Naval task force attacked a French Fleet at anchor in its base at Mers-el-Kébir, French Algeria. This was to stop the ships ending up in German hands but resulted in 1,297 french sailors being killed and the French mounting air raids on Gibraltar.

That's enough of a summary, no point me rewriting it all the detail is on the Wiki page

Muslim bus drivers refuse to let guide dogs on board. Seriously??

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1295749/Muslim-bus-drivers-refuse-let-guide-dogs-board.html

Ok it is the Daily Mail but checking on the internet seems to find other related stoies.

My Opinion
Sorry but if you cant do the whole of a job for whatever reason then don't do the job, simples.

If your allergic to spiders its best not to apply for a job at the zoo looking after spiders, yes?

"The Muslim Council of Britain said.  It urged Muslims to show tolerance and common sense over the issue. 'We need to be flexible on this,' a spokesman said.  'Muslim drivers should have no hesitation in allowing guide dogs into their bus or car."

and from the darkness a glimmering voice of sensibility lets hope its listened to.

What do you think?

Positioning statement
Just to qualify, my opinion is that any race or religion is welcome in Britain. (The diversity is what makes Britain a great place to live) as long as your beliefs do not adversely affect others.
